initiate   “开始”、“发起”，常用于表示发起运动、论坛、会议等。 1) The Red Cross initiates a charity campaign to collect contributions from the public to assist the victims
from the flooded areas.      （红十字会发起一次社会慈善募捐活动援助水灾灾民。） 2) He hopes to initiate a nationwide drive to protect and promote traditional architecture.

  (他希望能发起一个全国性的运动来推动传统建筑的保护。)

 

sponsor   “发起”、“主办”、“资助”。侧重指发起或主办某活动，或出资资助某活动。

             作名词意为“发起者”、“主办者”、“资助者”。

launch   “发射”，指发射导弹、火箭等，或“发起”进攻等。也可表示发起活动，开展计
划等。还可表示使(新船)首次下水。
