Model: 206, 306, 307, 406 with AL4 Automatic Transmission.

Symptoms
In all instances the warning light on the dash will flash, (Snow and Sportlight) indicating a malfunction in the transmission or the transmission control system.

In most cases the transmission will go into the downgraded mode, or limp home. In this mode the transmissionis locked in third speed to enable to continue the operation of the vehicle. This is reported bysome drivers as a loss of power. The downgraded mode can be preceded by some very harsh up or downshifts.

Usually the problem appears at unpredictable intervals. It is possible to have weeks of trouble freeoperation between incidents. Mostly the malfunction lasts only for short periods from a few seconds to a minute or two.Normaly when the engine is stopped and restarted after the illumination of the warning light, thesystem will be back to operating normally.

Diagnosis
The following fault code appears in the transmission ECU:"Intermittent fault. Pressure regulation fault"

First course of action.
Check the software version of the transmission ECU and update if necessary.Cleare the fault codes and initialise the autoadaptives.Check the fluid level and adjust as required.

Important: It is very important for the transmission fluid to be kept at the correct level. To much fluid is as harmful as a low level. Use Peugeot fluid only. (ESSO LT 7114) Part No. 9736.22
The vehicle can now be returned to service. If there is a recurrence, follow the steps bellow.

Second course of action
Only to be carried out if the first course of action was unsuccessful.
Replace the 2 pressure regulation solenoids on the transmission's valve body.
Ensure the 2 magnets on the transmission pan are present.
If the fluid is dark, drain the transmission for a second time after completion of the work and a road test. This is to further replenish the fluid in order to improve the operation of all valves.
